For it was in the year 1950 that an office building on the corner of Grace Avenue and Bond Street, owned by the Grace family of Manhasset, was razed – and in its place a local gathering spot was born. That year, a Brooklyn architect named Jacob Sherman designed a new building in the “Streamline Moderne” style to house Fredricks Luncheonette. Owned by the Selby family until 2010, Fredricks represented many traditions that townspeople recall fondly: Good food, Saturday night newspapers, cigars, egg creams, and a hub for local celebrities, politicians and social get-togethers.As we continue the tradition of a local gathering place for the residents of Great Neck and its surrounding area, friends, family and visitors, we also aim to establish a new tradition of excellence that will encourage and merit your patronage.
